Mother to son

The poem "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes is about is mother telling him what she has been through in life and also telling him not to give up. There is a lot of figurative language in this poem like when she said “Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.” I think that she meant by this is that when she was growing up in life, she was not one of those people that had lots of money in life and also she does not have lots of money now that she had a kid. The mood/tone of this poem was kind of strong saying being at he was trying to tell her son to never give up at life and to always keep moving forward.
