Deep water By: William O. Douglas

This book is called Deep water. The author is William O. Douglas. This book is a no-fiction book and based on his life as he was little. This book is about a man is at his child years and he went to the Y.M.C.A to go swim. Whenever he goes to the Y most of the time there is this guy that is about 18 years old and he knows how to swim. William looks at him while he swims. William did not know how to swim, that’s why he was looking at him. When the guy says William, he yelled, “Hi, Skinny! How’d you like to be ducked” So he went to go and pick him up and tossed him into the deep end of the pool. He said “I landed in a sitting position, and swallowed some water.

He went at once to the bottom. He was frightened. The pool was nine feet deep and he went all the way nine feet deep into the water. When he got to the bottom his legs where just hanging there like they were dead weights. When he got to the bottom of the pool, he put his feet to the bottom of the pool and plunged his feet trying to get to the top of the pool. But when he got to the top only his eyes and nose went above the water. When his head got to being under the water again he tried to scream but only the water could hear him scream. He started his journey back to the bottom of the pool. He was trying to reach for something but he did not get anything. He was down under water to long when he was starting to get dizzy and he had lost all of his breath.

He had remembered his strategy of how to get from coming up from the bottom. I would rate this book at a 4.5 star because it is a good book. He said “I would spring from the bottom of the pool and come like a cork to the surface. I would lie flat on the water, strike out with my arms, and thrash with my legs. Then I would get to the edge of the pool and be safe.”He had sprung from the bottom and he had made it to the top and all the yellowish color for him was going away and he could kind of see again and kind of smell. He tried to call for his mom; no one was there to answer his call. So he got out of the water and he got carried to the locker room to be checked if he was still alive, and he was.

Several hours later he walked home. When he got home he went to his room and started to cry because he had almost died in that pool. He didn’t eat anything for the rest of his night. For a long time he had that fear in his heart and never forgot about it. He never went back to school, he was very afraid of water for the rest of his life and he tried to avoid water whenever he got the chance. Ok so, if I had to recommend this book to other people, I would because this is just a good book and it has some big words in it and also I just love this book.
